Start Spreading the News....

Day One:

Fashion and Style from New York City

Fashion and Style in Central Park and New York City

Day Two:

Elizabeth and James top in New York

This past weekend I went to New York for the very first time ever. I was expecting everything that I'd seen in the movies - elegant brownstones and busy coffee shops; fashionable people hailing cabs and the overwhelming lights of Times Square.

New York had none of these things. Or (and this is much more likely) I just went to the wrong parts of town. What they don't tell you when you hop on a bus to this city is that New York is a gigantic place that cannot possibly be explored successfully in two days. You need to research and browse and delve into what you want to accomplish, but stay reasonable. Planning to see the Brooklyn Bridge at 3:00 and having dinner reservations in Greenwich Village at 5:00 in the same day is literally unachievable... Unless you have a private car or an airplane or something like that. You'll just end up crying on the 1:00am bus back to New Jersey.

What I managed to accomplish in two short days goes something like this:

1. Visit Central Park
2. Shop on 5th Ave. (Elizabeth and James sample sale, anyone?)
3. See an exhibition at the Fashion Institute of Technology
4. Line up for 30 minutes at the MOMA
5. Spend 30 minutes inside the MOMA
6. Get some scrumdiddlyumptious things at Magnolia Bakery
7. Hit up Walmart at midnight
8. Spend an unneccesary amount of time on Wall Street
9. Buy an expensive dress in Little Italy
10. Not buy anything in SoHo, and become consequently disappointed
11. See New York at nighttime from the Empire State building

The best part would have to have been Central Park. It was absolutely beautiful, and huge, and sunny, and filled with nice people walking their dogs and pushing baby strollers. If I could live in Central Park, I totally would. It was also great just to hang out with Seanei for the weekend! (big hearts)

What I wore in New York wasn't all that exciting, because I was feeling uninspired when I packed the night before. A floral crop top from Forever21 combined with a vintage skirt (see it in my last post here) and converse pretty much sums up my Day One attire, while Day Two is dominated by my new Elizabeth & James top that I got for 15% of full price (score!!).

This trip was a great experience, and I definitely want to go back - maybe when I'm 21 and have a couple friends living there and I can go out and do "local" things, and they can take me shopping in the nice spots of the city. New York is all about fashion, so next time I'll be sure to wring it for all its worth.
